:: ABOUT US

CIC’s mission is to provide Stony Brook students of all majors the opportunity to experience cinematography, ranging from classical, experimental to ‘Hollywood’-style, with the unique feasibility to discuss and learn from motion pictures of all categories by attending the organization’s bi-monthly symposia and workshops.

Furthermore, students can actively participate in CIC’s film productions for commercials and short films, which include the contribution at regular production meetings. With the special support from film industry professionals, students have the chance to study in open discussions all facets of filmmaking, from producing, directing to acting, and are invited to join the organization’s trips to film festivals and NYC productions as well as weekly movie screenings in symposium style, by interacting with invited directors, actors and producers.

Additionally, CIC members gain direct insight to all aspects of cinematography from the professional point of view. The organization’s goal is to promote internship and employment opportunities in the film business and to provide students academic and non-academic enrichment in an encouraging and rewarding environment.

:: CIC's Executive Committee
CIC is strongly supported by faculties throughout many departments at Stony Brook University, incl. Arts, Journalism and Theater Arts, as well as industry professionals from Paramount Pictures and Miramax. Furthermore, CIC works in close collaboration with SBU's Theater Arts Dept., NYU Tisch School of the Arts and the Yale School of Drama. Since CIC's goal was to allow undergraduate as well as graduate students to participate in the club's activities, CIC collaborates with both student governments: USG & GSO.

Manuel Proissl Manuel Proissl*
CEO, President - graduate representative | Office(s): Burbank[CA], Stony Brook[NY] -- Contact: proissl@cicfilms.com

"Mr. Proissl is a young talented film maker with the passion for drama. Besides his successful career in physics, he has been always truly fascinated by the magic of the movies. At an early age of 8, he started analyzing motion pictures like “Citizen Kane,” “The Godfather,” “Gone With the Wind,” “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” and wrote during his childhood screenplays for various short films, addressing e.g. the world of dreams, eternal love, tragic facets of war or life as an empirical constant, which he has unfortunately never submitted for production. In 2005, Mr. Proissl started an intense research marathon of three years, and wrote his first screenplay for a feature production, “An American Dream,” based on a true life story. His project turned in 2008 into a major motion picture production of a Hollywood studio with an estimated budget of 250M Dollars. First response from the Hollywood community at the 80th Annual Academy Awards has been promising. However, the official production announcement is still upcoming. Based on tragic developments in today’s dance world, as discussed in his film, he founded the world’s biggest dance project in support of talented dancers throughout the United States: “The NY Dance Project.” Participants may receive tuition funding and feature in dance productions on Broadway. As founder and CEO of the project’s company, UVP, he is presently organizing the opening event at Madison Square Garden, which will be live broadcasted nationwide. Currently in pre-production with his first feature, Mr. Proissl already works on his next screenplay, based on Stuart Isacoff's fascinating and hugely original book “Temperament.” He lives and works in New York and Los Angeles." —LA, 2008
